What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?

Dialectical behavior therapy is a treatment that was created by Marsha Linehan, a psychologist who works in Seattle. Originally, she developed this treatment to use with people who have an illness called borderline personality disorder.

Since its development, however, dialectical behavior therapy has been found to be very effective in treating a range of other illnesses as well.

One of the main reasons dialectical behavior therapy will be effective in helping with the symptoms of bipolar disorder, is that it helps people learn to manage their overwhelming emotions in more effective ways.

Dialectical behavior therapy has also been shown to be effective in helping people learn to handle emotional distress in healthier ways, and without losing control.
